Revitalization Tax Exemption Program

The City of Castlegar has adopted a revitalization tax exemption program intended to stimulate investment in commercial properties by encouraging property owners to improve their existing buildings thereby revitalizing and increasing the esthetic appeal of the community.

Features of the Revitalization Tax Exemption program include:

  • All business properties within the City of Castlegar may apply for tax relief that results from the increase in assessed value due to an alternation, renovation or expansion project.
  • Up to $750,000 of the increase in assessed value due to an alteration, renovation or expansion project may be eligible for the tax exemption.
  • 100% of the municipal share of the increased property taxes due annually that result from the improvement will be exempt for three years, 80% will be exempt in year four, 60% in year five and 40% in year six.
