Communities in Bloom Judges are Coming & We Need Your Help!

Castlegar is competing in Communities in Bloom’s Grand Champion Category this year – the best of the best – and we’re asking for your help before the judges arrive July 19.

The Communities in Bloom program inspires communities to enhance the quality of life and environment through people and plants, to create community pride. Castlegar’s group is a volunteer-driven organization which put in hundreds of hours year-round to beautify our community.

“Community appearance reflects an overall effort by the municipality, businesses, institutions and residents, to creative great first impressions,” says Darlene Kalawsky, Chair of Castlegar’s Communities in Bloom Program. “Let’s work together and make our community look fantastic.”

What to do with the judges one week away from visiting

Help your neighbors and business and prove that community pride is what we are known for. Lots can be achieved in a short time, and we’ve got some ideas:

  • pick up and recycle any litter you see
  • sweep and pressure wash store fronts
  • weed whack boulevards
  • weed and tidy around your yard
  • get rid of any visible unused items

Castlegar has participated in the Communities in Bloom program since 2004 and has consistently achieved five blooms recognition, successfully winning provincial, national and international competitions. In addition to outstanding achievement awards, we have also been recognized for Tidiness, Landscape Management, Heritage Conservation, and the prestigious Landscape Reclamation Award for Millennium Park & Ponds.
