City Modifying Water System to Improve Pressure & Flow

The City of Castlegar is modifying its water system to optimize performance and improve water pressure and flow for residential and fire-fighting purposes.

The modifications will take place Tuesday, October 25, from 8:00 pm  to 10:00 pm at the intersection of Columbia Avenue and 18th Street.

To ensure this work is completed with minimal disruption to water services, the City is asking residents in one area of the City to restrict water usage from 8:00 pm to 10:00 pm between 17th and 18th Street. This area includes Woodland Park, Connors Road, Riverside Crescent and the commercial properties fronting Columbia on 18th and 17th Street. During the same period, a temporary reduction in water pressure may be noticeable. There may also be changes in which quality which can be resolved by opening taps to full and running water until the water becomes clear.

While the City completes this work, traffic control will be in place and drivers may experience minor delays.

This work will optimize performance by connecting a pressure zone to another area of the water main that feeds the entire City.

The City of Castlegar is a service centre in the West Kootenay. The diversified and growing economy is focused on forestry, energy and mining sectors in the valley, and commercial services in the City. Quality of life features backcountry adventure and an increasingly dynamic urban culture, including the Millennium Park & Ponds and Sculpture Walk.
