Community Clean Up: Pitch-in Week April 16-23
Help clean up Castlegar as part of the annual PITCH-IN community clean-up across Canada. Over 1 million Canadians participate annually in this program, cleaning up over 5 million pounds of litter. PITCH-IN is the largest environmental improvement campaign in Canada. Pitch-in week garbage bags are free at City Hall and Civic Works for those interested in cleaning up Castlegar.
All waste collected as part of the community clean-up can be disposed of in bins at 925 Columbia Ave. (Pioneer Arena) or Minto Road (at the entrance to Civic Works).
Last year we had issues with junk being placed in the bins. Please respect that this is a community clean-up initiative and the following are not accepted in the bins:
- Recyclable materials
- Appliances (large and small) and electronics – these can be taken to a landfill or recycle depot free of charge
- Furniture
- Building/demolition material (Gyproc, cement, steel or wood)
- Liquids (including paints)
- Hazardous materials and medical waste (including fuel tanks) Visit the Regional District of Central Kootenay Facebook page for details on its Household Hazardous Waste Round-up Event
- Dirt, rocks, yard waste
- Light bulbs
- Tires
- Uncontained animal waste
