Thanks for Sharing Your Thoughts, Castlegar!

The City extends a huge thank you to community members who have shared their thoughts on the future of Castlegar as it renews its Official Community Plan.

Last week, the City had in-person conversations with community members to learn more about their priorities for Castlegar.  Events included:

  • Family Night, in collaboration with School District 20
  • Table talks
  • Coffee chats at local coffee shops
  • Castlegar Craft and Farmers Market
  • Castlegar & District Chamber of Commerce Business After Business events
  • Workshops for youth at Stanley Humphries Secondary School
  • Workshop for seniors through the Increasing Recreation Involving Seniors Program
  • Pop-ups at the Community Harvest Food Bank

“So far, we have heard from over 900 people through the workbook that was mailed to residents and available online, and through in-person conversations,” says City of Castlegar Manager of Planning, Development, and Sustainability, Meeri Durand. “We are receiving great feedback which will be compiled into a ‘What We Heard’ report, coming in June.”

Some of the key takeaways include the need for more housing options, enhanced public transportation and connectivity throughout the community, protection of green space, climate action, and diverse amenities for all residents.

There is Still Time to Have Your Say!

The workbook is still available online and in hard copy. Visit castlegar.ca/2033plan to access it online or stop by City Hall for a hard copy. Feedback received by May 31 will be included in our What We Heard Report.

If you are a community group that would like to have a focused discussion, email the project team at communityplan@castlegar.ca to schedule a session.
