City Council Members
The Castlegar City Council is comprised of the Mayor and 6 Councillors, each elected for a four year term.

Mayor Maria McFaddin
Maria McFaddin was elected as Mayor in 2022. Mayor McFaddin served as a Councillor from 2018-2022. Mayor McFaddin is the City’s Director on the Regional District of Central Kootenay (RDCK) Board, and the Castlegar and District Recreation Commission.
Mayor McFaddin grew up in Castlegar until she moved away for post secondary education. She moved back with her family in 2005 with her husband and young daughter. They owned a local business for 8 years. She is a wife, mom, adopted mom, and new grandma.
Mayor McFaddin has been involved in many of facets of the community including business, social service work, education, non-profit and construction. She has a passion for Castlegar and its residents to not just survive but to thrive.
Mayor McFaddin currently serves on the City’s Finance and Corporate Services Committee, Stage IV Labour Management Committee, and Planning, Development and Sustainability Committee.

Councillor Sue Heaton-Sherstobitoff
Councillor Sue Heaton-Sherstobitoff joined Council in 2011. Councillor Heaton-Sherstobitoff has lived in Castlegar since 1988, Sue and her husband Curtis have two daughters. Councillor Heaton-Sherstobitoff has an extensive history of volunteering within the community from Chairing the Selkirk College Foundation Board, to President of Selkirk Challengers Gymnastics Club to currently fundraising for Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation. Councillor Heaton-Sherstobitoff serves as a representative on the Castlegar and District Recreation Commission, the Community Wellness and Social Services Committee, and the Finance and Corporate Services Committee.

Councillor Cherryl MacLeod
Councillor MacLeod was elected to Council in 2018 and re-elected in 2022. Councillor MacLeod serves on the following Committees Community Wellness and Social Services Committee, Municipal Services, and Stage IV Labour Management Committee.

Councillor Brian Bogle
Councillor Brian Bogle was elected to Council in 2021. Councillor Bogle and his wife moved to Castlegar in 2005, they have a daughter and a son, two granddaughters and a grandson. Councillor Bogle managed the Castlegar Safeway from 2005 to September 2019 when he retired after 43 years of service with Safeway in various locations in the Interior of BC.
Councillor Bogle is appointed as the Alternate Director to the Regional District of Central Kootenay Board, and the Castlegar and District Recreation Commission. Councillor Bogle serves on the following Committees Cultural and Civic Pride, Planning Development, and Sustainability, and Stage IV Labour Management Committee.

Councillor Darcy Bell
Councillor Bell was elected to Council in 2022 and serves on the Cultural and Civic Pride Committee, and the Protective Services Committee.
Councillor Bell and his wife are proud to call Castlegar their home since moving to the area in 2012. Councillor Bell is dedicated to fostering diversity, inclusion, and creative planning for the sake of his constituents, neighbours and family - including his wife Amy, daughters, son in law and extended family in the area. He is enthusiastic about the future and what can be accomplished by the newly elected Council Team in Castlegar.

Councillor Shirley Falstead
Councillor Falstead was elected to Council 2022 and serves on the Green and Technology Committee and Municipal Services Committee.
Councillor Falstead has owned several businesses, an organic farm, a market garden and Spruce River Research a company specializing in economic development. She has worked with communities in developing tourism strategies, attracting industry, and identifying opportunities.
Councillor Falstead has been a guest speaker at Economic Development Conferences in Saskatchewan and BC and is experienced in evaluating business plans as well as financial and environmental risk management.
