Appointment of New City of Castlegar Chief Administrative Officer Announced

Castlegar – Mayor Chernoff and City Council are pleased to announce the hiring of Mr. Chris Barlow as the City’s new Chief Administrative Officer due to the upcoming retirement of the City’s current Chief Administrative Officer John Malcolm. The Mayor and Council made the choice following an in-depth executive search for the position. Mayor Chernoff stated that “The City engaged independent career managers to conduct an extensive job search which included candidates from Alberta and British Columbia. There were two full rounds of interviews with Mr. Barlow being the successful candidate.”

Mr. Barlow has 17 years of local government experience with 8 years at a senior manager level and 2 years of acting as Deputy Chief Administrator experience. He has successfully graduated from the Local Government Management Certificate program. Mr Barlow has stated “ I am honoured to have the opportunity and look forward to working closely with Mayor and Council to achieve their goals and objectives. I am very excited to continue to serve the citizens of Castlegar and lead the team of dedicated and hardworking staff we have to continue the success of the City.”

Mr. Barlow will begin his new role on September 5 in transition with the current C.A.O. Malcolm and will assume full operational responsibilities of the position on October 1 2017.
