Fire Ban - Effective April 16, 2020

Effective at noon (Pacific Standard Time) on Thursday, April 16, 2020, the use of fireworks, sky lanterns, burn barrels or burn cages of any size will be prohibited throughout the City of Castlegar.

This ban is in addition to the City of Castlegar Open Air Burning Bylaw 905 that prohibits open burning and is in conjunction with the Provincial Category 2 and Category 3 ban issued to help prevent human-caused wildfires and protect public safety.

These open burning prohibitions also support the Provincial State of Emergency and BC Centre for Disease Control's recommendation to help reduce excess air pollution in air-sheds throughout the province and will be strictly enforced.

Only campfires are permitted burning clean campfire wood on private property until otherwise notified by the Office of the City of Castlegar Fire Chief. For information on campfires, click here.

These prohibitions do not apply to cooking stoves that use gas, propane or briquettes, or to portable campfire apparatus with a CSA or ULC rating.
