Free Compost Delivery - #CastlegarGetsGrowing

The City of Castlegar is delivering free, high-quality compost to everyone in the City who wants it.

Castlegar residents will be able to get the equivalent of ~2 wheelbarrows of rich, black compost that is made from local yard waste which is great for plants. It includes leaves, branches, and lawn clippings which are ground, windrow composted, and then screened.

“We know nothing is normal this year so we wanted to do something special,” says Mayor Bruno Tassone. “We’re really excited to help grow and maintain thriving backyard gardens while people are planting bigger gardens and spending extra time working on their yards.”

In the past, Castlegar residents could pick-up two bags of compost in conjunction with the Castlegar Garden & Nature Fest. With the cancellation of this year’s event, it created an opportunity to try something new. Thanks to a partnership with Selkirk Paving Ltd., we’re able to deliver compost to everyone that wants it – for free. There will be some “growing” pains as we learn how much time it will take to provide delivery services throughout the community.

DELIVERY SCHEDULE

  1. Grandview - Thursday, May 14
  2. Blueberry - Starting Friday, May 15

As we progress, the delivery schedule will be posted to castlegar.ca/compost, the City’s Facebook page, and shared in local media. Residents can also contact City Hall at 250.365.7227 for more information.
