Submit Photos & Videos, Get Featured in Castlegar Celebrates Canada Video

The City is calling on the community to submit photos and videos showcasing what makes Castlegar & Canada special to them.

With the chaos and uncertainty that 2020 has brought, the City wants to take this opportunity to celebrate with the community and try something new. It’s producing a time capsule video called #CastlegarCelebratesCanada. The video will debut on June 30, just in time for Canada’s birthday on July 1. It will be available on social media so it can be shared with people near and far.

A selection of photos and videos, highlighting local people, locations and stories, will be included in the #CastlegarCelebratesCanada video.

Residents are encouraged to submit as many photos and videos as they like by June 26 to castlegar.ca/celebratecanada.

The year’s video is made possible by a $1,250 grant from the Department of Canadian Heritage – Celebrate Canada Program. The video is being produced by a local company, Stacked Films.

For over 10 years, the City has hosted in-person, Canada Day community celebrations at Millennium Park & Ponds, including various food vendors/groups, entertainment, music, family activities, a beach volleyball tournament, and an outdoor movie on the field. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the City cancelled this year’s in-person event to support public safety and the health of the community.

The City of Castlegar is a service centre in the West Kootenay. The diversified and growing economy is focused on the forestry, energy and mining sectors in the valley, and commercial services in the City. Quality of life features backcountry adventure and an increasingly dynamic urban culture, including the Millennium Park & Ponds and Sculpture Walk.
