Got Yard Waste? We Have You Covered!

Got Yard Waste? We Have You Covered!

The City is helping residents deal with yard waste again this spring, providing two options for grass, lawn and hedge clippings, flowers, weeds, leaves, vegetable stalks, shrubs, and branches.

Option 1 - Curbside pick-up

April 19in North Castlegar and April 20 in South Castlegar

May 31 in North Castlegar and June 1 in South Castlegar

Option 2 - Drop-off

Residents can also use the City’s yard waste composting facility at the north end of the Castlegar & District Community Complex at 2101 6th Ave. Note: This facility will be temporarily closed April 19-25 for the West Kootenay Trade Show.

The compostable bags previously available from the City will not be accepted this year due to changes at the local landfill.

  • If using bags, they must be paper compostable bags. There is no limit on the number of compostable bags.
  • Bins and other containers may be used as long as they are identified as containing yard waste. There is a limit of 2 containers per household.
  • Bags and bins will only be picked up if they weigh less than 20 kg each.
  • Tree prunings must be bundled with compostable twine. Individual bundles can be no longer than 1 metre in length and 0.5 metre in diameter. Maximum allowable branch diameter is 75 mm.

Grass, hedge clippings, flowers and weeds, leaves, vegetable stalks plants, and tree and shrub branches.
