Imagine Downtown Castlegar - share your ideas for the Downtown Area Plan
The City of Castlegar wants to hear ideas and input from residents and stakeholders to inform its Downtown Area Plan.
At the heart of every community is a vibrant downtown. We’ve all experienced downtowns that we love and want to visit or do business in. The City wants to hear what types of things could be possible in downtown Castlegar. Please join us at an open house, led by CTQ Consultants and City staff:
Wednesday, November 6, 2019
City of Castlegar Community Forum – 445 13th Ave.
4 – 8 p.m. (presentation at 6 p.m.)
Refreshments will be provided
We’ve made sharing your thoughts with us easy and available online 24/7 at www.Castlegarconnects.ca. Input from the community will help shape the draft plan. There will be additional opportunities to participate as the plan develops.
The City’s Downtown Area Plan will create a framework for improving the economic vitality and attractiveness of the City’s downtown core. It will guide growth and future development and establish a vision to encourage and foster the development of a vibrant, pedestrian-friendly and economically resilient downtown core. Developing a Downtown Area Plan is a key objective of the City’s Official Community Plan and is included in the City’s 2019-2023 Strategic Priorities.
“Our City has been identified as a community that is expected to lead B.C. in growth during the coming years and we have a downtown core with huge potential,” says Mayor Bruno Tassone. “For Council, we see this as an opportune time to engage the community in discussions so that we can develop a plan which encourages investment and ensures we are poised to take advantage of future opportunities.”
Downtown Area Plans commonly include topics such as:
- mixed-use and higher density residential development;
- strategies to encourage the redevelopment of existing commercial and residential properties;
- opportunities to better utilize public space for commercial and recreational opportunities;
- tools to encourage and incentivize investment; and
- directions on streetscapes, gateways, downtown theme, building and property improvements, signage, parking and traffic
