Pay 2021 Property Taxes & Avoid Penalty

Castlegar residents are reminded to pay their 2021 Property Tax by Friday, July 2 to avoid a penalty.

The City encourages homeowners to apply for their Home Owner Grant, a provincial subsidy that reduces the amount of property tax paid for principal residences, on time to ensure that the reduction is reflected on their account. This year, the Province of B.C. centralized the administration of the Home Owner Grant. For more information about the new process and how to apply, call 1.888.355.2700 or visit gov.bc.ca/homeownergrant.

A 10 per cent penalty will be applied to any unpaid taxes and unclaimed Home Owner Grant amounts after the property tax due date of July 2.

During the COVID-19 pandemic, the City strongly encourages the public to do business online and provides the following Property Tax payment options:

  • in person or online through your financial institution
  • mail or deposit a cheque in a dropbox at City Hall
  • via cash, cheque or debit at City Hall
  • online via credit card at castlegar.ca/online
