Santa Claus is Coming to Town

Santa Claus is Coming to Town

Castlegar’s annual Winterfest celebrations will look different this year but don’t worry, Santa will be here.

The parade of lights, the lighting of the tree, family entertainment, visits with Santa at City Hall, and breakfast with Santa at the Castlegar & District Recreation Complex have been cancelled due to COVID-19 restrictions and the community’s continued efforts to slow the spread.

Santa plans to visit schools and daycares in early December to deliver holiday greetings, collect letters to Santa to take back to the North Pole with him, and share a small, locally-made gift with all children.

“Ho, ho, hoooo, I’m really looking forward to seeing all the kids again,” says Santa, “It’s been a tough year and I’ll be to Castlegar as soon as the elves finish making a mask that’s large enough to cover my beard while not fogging-up my glasses.”

The Winterfest Committee has partnered with the Castlegar News and FortisBC to boost community spirit by bringing a Making Spirits Bright initiative to Castlegar. Making Spirits Bright will launch Tuesday, December 1 – stay tuned for more details & great prizes.

The Winterfest Committee includes the Castlegar & District Recreation Department, the Castlegar & District Chamber of Commerce, and the City of Castlegar.
