Everything you need to know about Property Taxes in the City of Castlegar.
Financial Services
- The Home Owner Grant Program is administered by the Province of BC. The City receives the approved grant amount directly from the Province. Eligible homeowners must apply for the Home Owner Grant each year. To claim your Home Owner Grant, or for more information, visit www.gov.bc.ca/homeownergrant, or call 1-888-355-2700 to speak with an agent.
- The City of Castlegar or your financial institution will not accept your Home Owner Grant application.
- Payments must be received by the City on or before 4:30 PM on the Property Tax due date – July 2, 2024.
- All electronic payments must be dated on or before the Property Tax due date – July 2, 2024.
- Your Home Owner Grant must be applied for by the Property Tax due date – July 2, 2024.
- A 10% penalty shall be applied for any payments received after the Property Tax due date – July 2, 2024. (This is a one time penalty that will remain unchanged until December 31, 2024.)
- Outstanding 2024 Property Taxes, including any unclaimed Home Owner Grant amounts, are subject to the 10% penalty.
- Mail cheque to City Hall – 460 Columbia Ave, Castlegar, BC, V1N 1G7. Please do not mail cash.
- In person at City Hall. Cash, cheque or debit are accepted.
- A cheque at the City Hall Dropbox, located out front of City Hall at 460 Columbia Ave. Please ensure your payment is received by the Property Tax due date – July 2, 2024.
- Through your financial institution. Please ensure the correct Payee – CITY OF CASTLEGAR (TAXES).
- Property Tax Deferment. Please visit www.gov.bc.ca/propertytaxdeferment for more information.
- By Credit Card online at www.castlegar.ca/pay-online. Please note their is a third-party user fee when using this service.
- If you are eligible, you must complete the application for the Home Owner Grant. The mortgage company cannot complete it for you.
- Ensure you have completed your Home Owner Grant application before the Property Tax due date – July 2, 2024.
- If your eligibility for the Home Owner Grant has changed, you may need to contact your mortgage company to confirm they are paying the correct amount.
- No, penalties are mandated by Provincial legislation and Municipal Staff do not have the discretion to waive, or reduce them.
