Create a Stir
It’s been said that you are what you dream about.
So why not explore the limits of imagination in a place inspired by geography, wearing art on its sleeve, with a dynamic West Kootenay culture, and working to nurture its next generation creative industry heartbeat.
This spirit comes to life in Sculpture Walk. In its 8th year in 2017, the event features 30+ sculptures and has become so successful that Castlegar has become a stop on the summer tourist circuit, and Castlegar has been trademarked as the Sculpture Capital of CanadaTM. The “winning” People’s Choice Award is purchased for permanent display in the City. As a result, the City’s creativity is increasingly visible.
If you have a creative bone to pick with your body – from Internet business to consultant to artist, we think you will like our place with the big rocks and the river roll.
Our population growth leads the West Kootenay, and housing prices are affordable at one-third the price of Vancouver. Quality of life features backcountry adventure and an increasingly dynamic urban culture, including addition of Millennium Ponds and the annual Sculpture Walk event in recent years. The City’s desirability as an affordable business and lifestyle choice will continue to grow with anticipated investments in a new recreation complex, redevelopment of the City’s primary commercial artery, first sales of West Kootenay Centre lands (39 acres) adjacent to the airport, and TELUS extension of 250/250 broadband service that will address the City’s interest in attracting entrepreneurs and creative industries.
