About Castlegar

Castlegar is a family-friendly community located centrally located in the mountainous West Kootenay region of British Columbia, Canada.

Situated at the confluence of the Kootenay and Columbia Rivers in the southwestern corner of the Kootenay Rockies, Castlegar’s current population is just under 10,000.

Incorporated in 1966, this relatively new mill town sits in a valley that has a rich and diverse history, steeped in the heritage and culture of the Doukhobors, who migrated here in the early 20th century.
