The Fire Department is a group of dedicated personal that works every day of the year to ensure the service provided is the highest quality of fire protection, prevention, and life safety to meet the needs of their community. The department consists of a Fire Chief, two Deputy Fire Chiefs and two companies of Paid-On-Call Officers and Firefighters.

Responsibilities
We are a full-service fire department that responds to fires, rescues, MVA/MVI incidents, first responder medical calls, hazardous materials, fire alarms, aircraft emergencies, and all other emergency situations.
- Perform fire prevention activities which includes commercial fire inspections and fire prevention activities through education within the community
- Volunteer to support community activities and charitable functions

Facilities & Apparatus
The Castlegar Fire Hall is centrally located at 2161 6th Avenue and has a satellite station at the West Kootenay Regional Airport.
The Fire Hall was built in 1999. This building includes an administration and dispatch area, kitchen / lounge facility, training room, weight room, training tower, and workshop, and serves as the City’s primary Emergency Operation Centre (EOC).

Castlegar’s Paid-on-Call Volunteer Firefighters may be asked to respond to a variety of emergency calls, including structure fires, motor vehicle incidents, medical calls and occasionally participate in public education events.
Fire Prevention & Safety
The Castlegar Fire Department provides education on fire prevention and safety through visits to schools, senior facilities, daycares and local businesses.
