Property information can be found online, by contacting Development Services, or by making a formal request for a property letter.

Find Property Information

The City provides online access to general information about zoning, land use, development permit areas, and utility rates. However some details, such as water and sewer servicing information, must be requested directly from the City.  Additionally, certain information can be found through other agencies, such as BC Assessment, the BC Land Title & Survey Authority, and the BC Archaeology Branch.

Find out your zoning by referring to the map at the back of the Zoning Bylaw.

To learn who owns a property, you will need to complete a Title Search with the Land Title & Survey Authority.

Visit the BC Agricultural Land Commission to view their Agricultural Land Reserve map.

Contact Municipal Services and request the Service Card(s) for your property. These show details for your water and sewer service, including the date of installation, location, depth, and material.

To find out about gas or power servicing, please contact FortisBC.

To find out if a proposed development would require access permit or development approval from the Ministry (TranBC), contact the local Development Services Office. You can also check their Controlled Access Highways map. Learn more about Highway Use Permits.

To find out if a property or proposed development could be subject to the Heritage Conservation Act, contact the BC Archaeological Branch. To find out if a property or proposed development could be subject to the Contaminated Sites Regulation, contact the Land Remediation Section. To find out who owns a business or a numbered company, visit ServiceBC or contact the BC Registries helpdesk. You can also request information online by visiting the Province’s Business Search website page.

Request Property Information

A property information request allows the community to obtain information while ensuring that the privacy of property owners is protected. General information like zoning does not require authorization to request and can be provided by email. More personal information, like whether or not permits were issued, can only be requested by the property owner or an authorized agent. If formal correspondence is needed, the City can provide a property letter. Note, there is no guarantee records are available for all properties.

Property Letters

To request a property letter, fill out the Property Information Authorization Form and email it to devserv@castlegar.ca along with a current copy of your property title from the BC Land Title Office. If your property is owned by a company or corporation, you will need to provide a business summary from BC Registries. Once we receive your request, staff will review it and let you know what information the City can provide. The letter will be prepared after the required fee is paid.
  • There is a $50 fee that can be paid via cash, cheque or debit.
  • Please note that letters may take up to 10 business days, depending on the complexity of the request.

The following information can be requested:

  • if permits have been issued
  • if the property is serviced
  • zoning
  • any development permit areas
  • specified plans or documents*

*Information that falls under the Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act are subject to a Freedom of Information Request and cannot be accessed through a Property Information Request.
