Natural Swimming Ponds at Millennium Park Temporarily Closed

The natural swimming ponds at Castlegar’s Millennium Park are temporarily closed.

During routine maintenance, Civic Works crews noted an issue with the well at Millennium Park & Ponds that feeds the ponds and irrigation infrastructure. A replacement part has been ordered but until repairs can be completed, the City is voluntarily closing the ponds as a precautionary measure as water quality could be impacted while the well is out of service.

“We recognize this timing is inconvenient with warm temperatures expected over the long weekend,” says Director of Municipal Services, Chris Hallam. “Safety is always a top priority with the natural ponds at Millennium Park and we look forward to reopening the ponds as soon as repairs are complete, and testing confirms the water is suitable for swimming.”

The City follows the Canadian Recreational Water Guidelines and regularly tests the natural ponds’ water quality and submits the results to the Interior Health Authority for review.
