Housing Project at 925 Columbia Avenue: Next Steps
The City of Castlegar is preparing for the next steps in developing a new housing project at 925 Columbia Avenue.
This project, a partnership between the City of Castlegar, BC Housing, and Lu’ma Developments, will bring up to 78 non-market housing units to the community, helping to meet the growing need for affordable, accessible housing in a central location.
“The City’s Strategic Plan commits us to creating a future with affordable homes for all,” says Mayor Maria McFaddin. “This project reflects that commitment and our willingness to step outside of our traditional role to help make housing happen. It’s a significant step toward ensuring residents of all ages and income levels can continue to call Castlegar home.”
As part of this transition, the Pioneer Arena is scheduled for demolition this summer. The contractor will mobilize on site during the week of August 5–8, installing fencing and preparing the area. The following week, abatement will start inside the building to safely remove hazardous materials. Demolition will follow, with the entire process expected to take approximately two months.
As this project moves into the construction phase, information about development approvals can be found at castlegar.ca/currentdevelopmentapplications.
