Quarterly Newsletter – October 2025
Four times a year the City of Castlegar publishes a newsletter that is distributed to all homes with our quarterly utility bills. Here’s what to know in Castlegar this quarter.
Pumpkins Go in Your Organics Cart
Halloween waste doesn’t have to be scary! Place your pumpkins in your curbside organics cart. Remove any candles or battery-operated lights.
Leave the Leaves
Fall leaves are a nursery to butterflies and bees and a free source of mulch and fertilizer. Run the mower over the leaves and allow them to break down naturally or use them as mulch for garden beds and around trees and shrubs. If you must keep your lawn leaf-free, find space to pile them to naturally decompose, place them in your curbside organics cart, or drop off them off at the Ootischenia Landfill.
Food for Thought
Place small amounts of fats and grease into your curbside organics cart. Did you know these are fats?
- Dairy products: yogurt, margarine, shortening, gravy
- Oil: cooking oils, salad dressing, mayonnaise
- Grease: animal fats from cooking meats
