Notice to the Public: Dutch Elm Disease Survey in Castlegar
The City of Castlegar would like to advise residents that representatives from Living Tree Environmental will be conducting Dutch Elm Disease surveys in Castlegar on August 2 and 3, 2026, as part of a regional surveillance program.
Survey crews will be assessing elm trees throughout the community to help detect and prevent the spread of Dutch Elm Disease, a serious tree disease that was first confirmed in British Columbia in 2024.
Residents may see Living Tree Environmental staff in clearly branded vehicles and apparel while surveying trees in parks, boulevards, and other areas throughout the city. Staff may also speak with property owners if elm trees are identified on private property and further assessment is requested.
Dutch Elm Disease can cause rapid decline and death of elm trees and is spread primarily by elm bark beetles and the movement of elm wood. Early detection is an important step in helping protect urban forests.
