City of Castlegar Invites Public Input on 2027 Budget
The City of Castlegar is inviting residents and community organizations to help shape the City’s 2027 budget by sharing their ideas, priorities, and feedback throughout the budget process.
Each year, the budget guides how public funds are invested in essential services, infrastructure, programs, and initiatives that support quality of life in Castlegar.
“The City’s budget is one of Council’s most important annual decisions,” said Steffan Klassen, Director of Finance & Technology. “Community input helps Council understand local priorities and make informed decisions that balance current needs with long-term financial sustainability.”

Residents can submit budget ideas, priorities, and suggestions by emailing budget@castlegar.ca before 3 p.m. on September 25, 2026. Council will review public input as part of budget planning.
Community Group Presentations
Community organizations that support Council’s strategic priorities will present annual updates and funding requests during a Special Council Meeting on December 7, 2026, at 5 p.m.
These presentations help Council better understand the role local organizations play in supporting arts, culture, heritage, recreation, and overall community well-being.
Draft Financial Plan Development
After community presentations and public input, the City’s Finance Team will prepare the draft 2027-2031 Financial Plan for Council’s consideration. The draft plan will be available for public review beginning January 13, 2027, at castlegar.ca/budget.
Council will deliberate the draft budget during Special Council Meetings on January 19 and January 21, 2027, beginning at 5 p.m. The public is invited to attend.
Residents can learn more about the proposed budget, ask questions, and provide feedback during a public open house on January 28, 2027.
Financial Plan Adoption
Council is scheduled to consider the first three readings of the 2027-2031 Financial Plan Bylaw on February 15, 2027, with final adoption planned for March 1, 2027.
All budget meetings are open to the public, and residents are encouraged to participate by attending meetings in person or online and sharing feedback throughout the process.
