Boil Water Notice Rescinded

The Boil Water Notice for the City of Castlegar issued on Friday, August 9, 2024, has been rescinded.

Water sampling results indicate that the water is safe, and the Boil Water Notice is no longer required. Interior Health required the boil water notice following a power outage that impacted the water system’s chlorination. Crews responded immediately and minimized impacts. We appreciate the community’s patience throughout the weekend.

Once the City receives the test results, it can determine if the Boil Water Notice can be rescinded or will remain in effect.

August 9, 2024

Effective immediately, City of Castlegar residents serviced by the City’s water system will be under a Boil Water Notice at the request of the Interior Health Authority.

This is required following a power outage which impacted the water system’s chlorination. Crews responded immediately to minimize impacts.

During a Boil Water Notice, Interior Health recommends that water is boiled before using it for drinking, making ice, cooking, washing food, or brushing teeth. Interior Health also recommends the use of hand sanitizer after washing hands.

Until notified, all users are advised to:

  • Bring water to a rolling boil for at least 1 minute, or
  • Use an alternate, safe source of water.

PUBLIC FACILITIES

The City asks that you display this Boil Water Notice at every sink or drinking water fountain accessible to the public and verbally advise your clientele of the Boil Water Notice as opportunities arise. In addition, you could turn off sinks or fountains and provide a safe alternative to tap water (e.g. bottled water).

The Boil Water Notice will be in place until rescinded by the City. The most current information is available at castlegar.ca/emergency.

We appreciate your patience while we work to resolve this issue.
